Description of the Opportunity

Applications are now open for the Rio Tinto Alcan Legacy Fund Scholarship/Bursary for 2025. If you are between 16 and 25 and passionate about agriculture, this is your moment. This scholarship is only available to students from the parishes of St. Ann, St. Catherine, and Manchester who are pursuing studies in agriculture or related fields.

It provides tuition support, mentorship, and hands-on training to help build the next generation of agri-leaders.

Eligibility

Who can apply?

Applicants must:
• Be 16–25 years old
• Live in St. Catherine, Manchester, or St. Ann
• Be enrolled in OR applying to a secondary or tertiary institution
• Have a passion for agriculture, food security, or sustainability

Application Process

Kindly ensure, before starting the application process, that you:

2. Prepare an essay of purpose (150–200 words) stating why you should be selected for this scholarship.

3. Obtain school reports/transcript for the last academic year from your respective institution. The report MUST be submitted in PDF format.

4. Fill out the online application form and upload the PDF format of all supporting documents.

Required Documents

All Applicants

1. Copy of School ID 
2. One (1) Certified Passport Size Photos (applicable ONLY to students without a school ID)
3. Reference Letter (to be completed by Form Teacher, Guidance Counselor, or Principal)
4. Signed Declaration Form
5. Essay stating why you should be considered for the scholarship/bursaries

First Year Tertiary Students

1. Acceptance Letter (This applies to 1st-year tertiary students)

Returning Students (Applicable to students who previously benefitted from scholarship/bursary)

1. Certified copy of last (final semester) school report/transcript
2. Beneficiary Report outlining how scholarship/bursary was used
3. Evidence of monies spent (an affidavit may be used where receipts and other means of verification are not available)
